Well done to Dave Goddard who completed the Cardiff half marathon in 'A Reasonable Time' on Sunday 2nd October 2022 and in doing so raised £800 for the charity BRAKE.

ANOTHER - QUIZZING SUCCESS STORY
Congratulations to Steve Cotterell and those of our NARPO members that were able to make the Breast Cancer Care - Quiz Night on Thursday 15th of February at the Rhiwbina Receation Centre. 120 people attended and the event help to raise over £1,000 for the charity
POST PONED
MacMILLAN NURSES CHARITY NIGHT SUCCESS
Despite the need to cancel the planned charity rugby match due to the condition of the Brewery Field the charity night itself was a great success.
The match will hopefully be played towards the end of the season, but so far the evening itself raised £1643:00 for the MacMillan Cancer Care charity.
Grateful thanks to all those braved the weather and attended, and those who didn't but still contibuted in many other ways to the success of the night.
The Charity auction on the night also had to be cancelled due to time constraints but an electronic auction will be taking place soon which will assist in pushing the total even higher
BOXING TOURNAMENT
SUCCESS
You may recall that on Saturday 18th November 2017 Det. Sgt Dai Cole took part in the 10th Annual SWP 'White Collar Boxing Tournament, held at the Vale Hotel.
Dai voluteered to box on behalf of Breast Cancer Care and as a result of sponsorship, donations etc he succeeded in raising over £600 for the charity. His just giving page is now closed.
On behalf of Dai, and the Charity, we wish to thank all the NARPO Cardiff members who contributed in supporting this event, and Dai in particular for participating.
MORE TEA VICAR - SUCCESS
We are pleased to announce that the 'Afternoon Tea' event organised by Margaret and Steve Cotterell was a tremendous success.
They made £800 on the day plus £260 plus on Just Giving.
The money received from the Old Farts covered the costs of buying the sandwiches. Everyone was very generous. They had 20 excellent raffle prizes donated by friends.
MESSATHON CHALLENGE - BRISTOL RESULT
Saturday 29th July saw the three grandsons of the webmaster namely Roan (11) Ollie (5) and Leo (4) participate in the second ever NSPCC Messathon held in the grounds of Blaise Castle in Bristol. The course was set out over 3 kilometres and involved cargo nets, swings, water slides mud & foam pools just about every obstacle that you can think of that would help get a child and their parent wet & DIRTY
The boys succeeded in completing the course and would like to thank all those including our branch members for their kind sponsorship which so far has raised in excess of £200 for the NSPCC Charity

BHF CYCLETHON COMPLETED
THANK YOU
On Sunday 16th July 2017, another chapter in Emma's story was completed. Together with her husband Shane they undertook their first ever cycle ride for charity. The BHF Cyclethon is a series of bike rides ranging from 5kms right up to 48 miles in and arounf the Gower and Mumbles area of Swansea.
The challenge was attended by professionals and ameteurs alike all with one goal. To raise finds for the British Heart Foundation. Despite the weather riders of all ages from 5 upto 85 attended at St Helens recreation ground for the start.
So far Emma and Shane's efforts have raised £175.00, but it is known that more money has been pledged so the total will increase.

On their behalf I would like to offer my grateful thanks to the members of the Branch that donated and helped them support this charity. It appears that they have now both got the cycling bug as they have already signed up for the charity cycle ride from Brecon to Cardiff Bay .
QUIZ NIGHT - THE RESULT
As many of you will recall the Breast Cancer Quiz night was held at the the Missoula Bar in St Mary Street, Cardiff on Thursday 6th of July.
Mr. Steve Cotterell has supplied us with the following update from the event:
' the quiz was a good night. Won by a combined team of John Donovan's family and Gill Higgins family. My team came 3rd. We made just over £500.00 on the night. Thanks to everyone who took part.' Steve
HAIR DONATION FOR CHARITY A SUCCESS!!!!!!
As a our readers are aware from the original appeal for your help.
This is Olivia, an 11 year old student and Junior Coach at Hoshi: Keeping Children Safe, and a daughter of a friend of the webmaster. Neither her or her parents have any connection with the Police service. But what she is doing at her age is an example to us all.
A year ago Olivia made the decision she wanted to grow and donate her hair to The Princess Trust, a charity who use real hair to make wigs for children affected by cancer.
She then followed this up with a decision to raise sponsorship for the haircut as well. All monies sponsored would go to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital, who are currently treating her friend Autumn for a rare type of brain tumour. 15 inches of hair was cut and will be made into a number of wigs, and to date she has raised over £800 for the Noahs Arks Appeal. Which has amazed her totally as she had set her self an initial goal of just £100, then it went to £400, and thanks to support from some of our membership she has doubled that already.

10 - 4 - 7 PRESENTATION
On Sunday afternoon (13-12-15) at Whitchurch Golf Club, Howard and Sam Sam presented a cheque for £2300 to Mr Gwyn Jackson, representing Prostate Cancer UK. This was the final total of donations following our ride in August.
Our thanks again to all those who supported us with their donations. Our thanks also to John Blackburn who completed the cheque for us in his own brilliant style. We also carried out the draw to find the lucky winner of the three months free membership of a Caerphilly Gymnasium, which had been kindly donated.
The first two names drawn out, asked for the prize to be offered to the 'next on the list', so the winner is Sarah Barnes, a friend of our daughter. Enjoy!!

INVNCBL CHALLENGE 2015 - PARC PENALLTA
Saturday 17th October 2015, saw a large number of very determined people take part in the Invncbl Challenge 2015 10 Kilometer obstacle and endurance race.
Amongst the challengers this year were a team from the Bridgend Recreation Centre who were entering to raise funds for a variety of charities including Stroke Awareness.
Sarah, the youngest daughter of your webmaster was part of the team, and was supported by family at the event as well as lots of people via donations. Sarah would like to say a big thank you to those NARPO members who helped to swell the coffers either via the Just giving link or in person by putting money in the bucket etc. At present the total is not known as the seal on the bucket has not been broken by the charity and the contents counted. But an update will be provided in due course.
Please feel free to view the album of some of the pictures taken on the day, and yes it was 'COLD' stuck on the mountain side as a spectator, for those who swam the lake at the 2 Kilometer stage and then ran for 8 Kilometers soaking wet it must have been freezing

Up and Over
10 - 4 - 7 Challenge
On 3rd August 2015 Howard Davies and his 12 year old grandson Sam commenced a challenge of riding 10 miles a day for 7 days making a total of 70 miles. The challenge was all Sam's idea with Howard only along for the ride.
When sam set the challenge his goal was to raise £500, in aid of Men United Prostrate Cancer Charity.
As the first two days ended it was clear that they would break the goal that had been set, little did they know that by the end of the 7 day challenge they would more than quadruple the amount they raised breaking the £2,000 mark.

The Taff Trail Trudge 2015
The planning paid Off
It's over it's done and dusted for this year, the Taff Trail trudgers have completed the task they set themselves. As readers may recal the task was as follows:
Paul 'Oddball' Phillips and a few other lunatics embarked on this challenge of walking from Brecon to Cardiff the following route.
Starting at Theatr Brycheiniog on the morning of 28th August - they walked are all the way back to Cardiff within 24 hours... in the middle they climbed Corn Du (873 metres), Pen Y Fan (886 metres), Cribyn (795 metres) and Fan y Big (719 Metres)...then its all down home back to the pub for a drink and partying... this is now getting a little serious as the climb took them from Storey Arms following an SAS training route up via the Obelisk to Corn Du... then over to Pen Y Fan. Then they dropped down Jacobs ladder to the valley before climbing back up to Cribyn and another drop into the valley before another climb up to the summit of the little mountain then they had another drop back down into the valley pick up the Roman Road and head off to Merthyr! this was followed in the ealry housr of the morning by sneaking past Pontypridd in the dark and back to Cardiff.
Unfortunately Paul 'Oddball' Phillips had to retire with an injury after 34 miles, but the remainder of the team contibued and completed the course Not only that but they managed to do it in
22hrs 45 Mins
What an amazing end to the challenge especially after adding one more hill into the melting pot compared to last year. Below you will find a gallery of some of the 'Facebook' imagaes of the team on theire trek.

Garden Party Update
You may recall a little while back Mr and Mrs Brian Lowe invited members and friends to a graden party / coffee and cakes morning at their home. Brian sends hi s thanks to those that attended especially the retired officer who came all the way from Dinas Powis and the donation from the NARPO Branch. The total raised and donated to the Parkinsons Charity was £410.00
Congratulations to both Brian and Linda on raising this amount......
There is No truth in the rumour that Linda is looking to open a tea shop ......
ANOTHER PEN Y FAN CHALLENGE - YOU HELPED SUCCEED
On 18th July retired constable John Wellbeloved and his daughter Natalie undertook a sponsored climb of Pen y Fan. They were accompanied by employees and friends from Dunelms (Cardiff).
This event was triggered by the tragic death of newborn baby Teddy Houlston, who then became the youngest organ donor in the UK. Teddy was a relation to an employee from Dunelms.
As a result it was decided to raise money through sponsorship of this event for the 2 wish upon a star charity in order to help other children achieve their dreams
The total raised by those taking part was £1665 below you find a galler of some of the images taken on the journey. Amazing to see so many children taking part, further images of the presentation of the monies will be added in the future. Please click on the image a larger view.
THE SKY DIVE UPDATE

Thankyou for supporting me in my sky dive - as promised I have attached a few pictures of me and the charities mascot HOPE and proof that we completed the sky dive on Sunday - plus a picky of me and Dad unfortunately Saturday was cancelled due to high winds but we successfully completed on Sunday morning .
